2019 – a brief review

this is the year that:

I had my work published for the first time, in UPPERCASE surface pattern design guide and on the print & pattern blog

I launched my new website and pattern catalogue May 5th . My computer broke down in mars and I just couldn’t get myself to buy a new one (technology is not my favourite thing to spend money on!) so I finished my website and the editing of all images on an old laptop, which… wasn’t a great idea. As I discovered afterwards all colours looked really weird and the whites had a strange yellowish tone. But I guess it was a lesson learned – always double check everything! I did a looot of editing this spring and summer.

I finally finished the Arts and Business of Surface Pattern Design courses. Last January (!) I bought their self-paced module 2 and 3, and it’s taken me almost 2 years to go through them. Self-paced courses are great most of the time, but it can be hard to take the time for them when you don’t have any deadlines to follow. However, it’s been great having access to them during my first year in licensing.

I settled my first licensing agreements and received my first samples. It’s such a surreal thing seeing your patterns on real products that are actually going to be used by a real person, but so so exciting. And there’s more to come in 2020!

I barely listened to any music, but among the favourites where these songs.

No spring without the eurovision song contest! one of my hopes for 2020 is that I’ll get back my love for music.

My instagram top 9 was filled to the brim with florals and nature motifs. The Australian Flora pattern seen in the bottom left corner can be found on phone cases and lap top skins over at CaseApp, and the bottom two patterns on the right side are available as standard and extended license through Patternbank.

My year of colour

I created some of my favourite prints & patterns to date – I’m always happiest when I get to work with florals.

I think we are capable of change throughout the year, but to me the marking of a new year is the perfect opportunity to get a fresh start and to really think about what I want and don’t want. Even more so now that we enter a new decade. I wish you all a happy new year and a happy 20’s!

Fy! Art Prints

This just launched! I’ve designed a bunch of prints for wall art and phone cases for Berlin-based Fy! that are are now available to order through their website. You can check them all out here.
